PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT UNIT@SLCP
The Professional Development Unit (PDU) of the School of Languages, Civilisation and Philosophy (SLCP) was established in February 2013 in accordance with the strategic plan of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM). PDU offers courses to improve the language and communication skills of international students across all programmes and departments. PDU also offers custom-made and individuallyfocused language trainings and other types of short courses. PDU aims to provide support services in a friendly, professional and caring environment to help UUM students, staff as well as the local and international community to achieve goals and aspirations.
With the state-of-the-art facilities and surrounded with tropical green forest in UUM, PDU will provide the best language learning experience for international students.

EDITING AND TRANSLATION SERVICES
PDU also has an extensive experience in editing and translating documents to and from various languages like Malay, English, Mandarin, Arabic, Japanese, Korean, French, Germany, Spanish and Thai. The services are open to students, staff, as well as the public.
PREPARATORY COURSES
This course is specially tailored to fulfil the needs of students who have not demonstrated an acceptable level of English proficiency upon entrance into the University. Throughout the course, students will enjoy the fun learning activities under the supervision of well-trained teachers.

Edutrip to Morocco
- University in Morocco to provide activities (1 slot from the tour program), e.g. Campus Tour / Moroccan Traditional Cultural Show / Talks , etc. Slot 1: Campus Tour Slot 2: Cultural Sharing Session
Staff Mobility
- Language Instructors Exchange Programme (Malay and Arabic, English and Arabic)
This mobility programme aims at enabling the teachers to exchange knowledge, experience and ideas on language teaching and learning. It also provides opportunities for both parties to have collaborative work in order to improve the quality of language teaching at respective universities.
Students Mobility
- Students Exchange Programme
This programme will enable students from both countries to have real –life experience in a different country. They will attend a short course which exposes them to language learning and cultural experiences.
Research on Languages, Culture and Civilisation
- Staffs and students from both countries can collaborate on conducting research on languages, cultures and civilisation.
Seminar / Conference on Languages, Culture and Civilisation
- Staffs and students from both counties can collaborate on organising seminars or conferences on languages, cultures and civilisation. Both parties will take part in hosting the seminars /conferences.
Training of the Trainers (ToT)
- This programme will enable the staffs from both countries to attend training courses particularly in language teaching. For example, PDU will provide trainings for English and Malay language courses for instructors from universities in China. Likewise, universities in China will provide training courses in teaching Mandarin language for SLCP/UUM staffs.
